Pig-Out Madness: Uncle Cheffy and Kuse Restaurant

June 23, 2018 — The chilly Tagaytay climate on a rainy season demanded a grand feast to comfort the soul. That gloomy night, Uncle Cheffy and Kuse Restaurant served as the perfect dining place for my friends and I who came from Nasugbu that time.

We started the meal with The Lovely Jenny Salad (₱230) which is made of generous slices of green apple and arugula salad with marinated salmon in creamy French dressing. Named after the founder’s wife, it was said that this salad was her favorite. Meanwhile, the Batangas Bulalo (₱595) was swiftly served on our table. Perfect on a rainy day, the bowl of hot broth serves as our source of comfort.

The All-Meat Barbeque Platter (₱920) is a combination of chicken leg, lamb breast, beef and pork ribs served with bbq sauce, piquant chimichurri marinade, and tomato salsa. The platter comes with a simple salad toss in ginger ale balsamic vinaigrette, plus baked baby potatoes! There’s also the All-Meat BBQ Panizza (₱328/₱628) that is served hot and rich, freshly baked in a charcoal brick oven. The toppings consist of chicken teriyaki, beef and pork barbecue bits on a thick layer of cheese. It’s the star of the whole table, honestly.

For dessert, we tried the Sapin-sapin Creme Brulee (₱195). It’s a rich custard-based Filipino-inspired cake that features overwhelming layers of ube and cassava. Although I appreciate the attempt to localize this French dessert, it’s not something I’d recommend because of its oversweet combination, top it off with caramelized sugar that makes it even more difficult to eat. On a brighter side, The Cheffy Cheesecake (₱150) brings a light, smooth, and creamy texture. The cheesy and chocolate layers are both perfectly sweetened, drizzled with tangy fruity sauce. I particularly love the chocolate cake – silky, moist and slightly bitter.

Uncle Cheffy may be intimidating for some because of its Italian, American, and Filipino fusion, but it’s actually a good choice for families and huge groups in search of good food within the vicinity of Tagaytay City. The restaurant also offers affordable meals and small servings that could be shared for 2-4 persons. Come and try their All-Meat Barbecue Panizza. It’s the winner!
