8 Must-Visit Places Around Tanay, Rizal In A Day

Only a few hours away from Manila is the town of Tanay in Rizal, an accessible destination where adventure and exciting activities await such as spelunking in an impressive caving system, trekking to two breathtaking waterfalls and visiting numerous sightseeing spots.

Below are 8 destinations you can go to on your Rizal day tour!

1. Pililla Windmills

Pililla Windmills is situated on the top of the hills overlooking Laguna de Bay and the rolling grasslands of Tanay on the other side. The site coverage of Pililla wind farm is a whopping 4,515 hectares. All in all, there is a total of 27 wind turbine generators. (Read more: Pililla Windmills)

2. Regina RICA Pilgrimage Site

Regina Rosarii Institute for Contemplation in Asia, or more popularly known as Regina RICA, is a 13.7 hectares pilgrimage site run by Dominican sisters in Tanay, Rizal. It is the home to a 71 ft. Mama Mary structure where a trail leading to a chapel can be found.

3. Calinawan Cave

Did you know that the name “Calinawan” was derived from the Tagalog word “nagkalinawan” (in English, made clear)? It was said that the cave is where American and Japanese had an agreement to settle their disputes. (Read more: Calinawan Cave)

4. Daranak Falls

Although crowded, Daranak Falls looked so beautiful with its cool pristine  waters. As I walked across Daranak Falls, the path was rocky, uneven and slippery. I recommend tourists to wear aqua shoes to make the experience easier and safer. (Read more: Daranak Falls + Batlag Falls)

5. Batlag Falls

Batlag Falls offers a more peaceful surrounding than Daranak Falls since there is a lesser crowd and no cottages around.  Unlike the waters in Daranak Falls, the water in Batlag Falls is not as clear.

6. Our Lady of Rawan Grotto

Just before you go to Calinawan Cave, you may enjoy the view of Rizal by going up the Grotto.

7. Parola Lighthouse

The Parola Lighthouse is located in the lakeshore of Barangay San Isidro. It once served as a guide for fishermen way back before but stopped operations in 2012. Today, it is seen as a tourist attraction where visitors can take a glimpse of the breathtaking sunset view.
