Houli Flower Farm, also known as Zhongshe Flower Market, is a six-hectare of nicely tended flower beds covered with a wide range of flowers in varying bright colors. It is located in Houli District, two hours away from the country’s capital, Taipei.
The tourist destination is more popular among foreign visitors rather than local tourists because of its virality on social media. Both non-garden lovers and plantitas will want to be in this dreamy backdrop of blooming flowers which is gaining online attention on Instagram alone.
Regardless of the season, Zhongshe Flower Market has flowers in bloom throughout the year. The best time to visit is from January to March because most flowers are in bloom during this period. For much more detailed information, read this article. This part of Taichung is a low-lying area, which provides the perfect climate to grow these flowers.
November 26, 2019 –The first thing to welcome the guests upon entering the flower market is the European-inspired park with backdrops and props to add charm in the photos. It even has its own Dutch-windmill, to which they call “Little Amsterdam”.
Even though the park was a lovely sight, my mom and I headed to check the rest of the flower garden. We took our sweet time in the park after having seen the best spots here in Houli Flower Farm.
The flower garden was not as wide as tourists would imagine it to be, but it was a beautiful place to take photos. If you’re not a fan of taking photos nor a garden lover, I’m afraid there is nothing much to do here.
As festive as Zhongshe Flower Market looked, it is important to know that many tourists flock to the great spots so it’s better to use your time wisely (especially if you’re like us who are time-bound due to the Klook tour).
We did not waste a single moment since we only have an hour or less to roam around the area. When people fell in line to take their photos in a certain spot, we immediately proceed to the next flower bed to maximize our time. The first area that we got to appreciate closely was the lotus pond. It felt like we were teleported to Japan just by taking in this beautiful scenery.
There were no tulips in bloom when we visited but the place was still as enjoyable as can be. To our surprise, Houli Flower Farm as a whole won’t take long to tour. It’s the photo-ops that will make your stay here overwhelming instead.
Don’t get disappointed when you come here and feel deceived because it’s not what it looked like on Instagram. The photos you see online would raise your expectations, but always consider that those images might have been enhanced with Photoshop, or those photos were taken during the blooming season of most flowers.
My mom and I didn’t have many photos, mainly because the flowers looked the same and/or weren’t in full bloom yet so we didn’t bother. (But we did admire them up close.)
Itinerary and price are not published because the tour to Houli Flower Farm/Zhongshe Flower Market is part of the Klook package availed by the author.
