Love chasing the sunset? You’d definitely adore the view here in Gaomei Wetlands, formerly known as Gaomei Wetland Preservation Area, in Qingshui District, Taichung. This was our final stop following the tour in Rainbow Village.
November 26, 2019 — The wind is not stopping in this coastal area, no. It blows and blows strong to the point that it can push your body if you’re clumsy.
My skin was greeted by humid sea air, and I can smell the fishy, tangy small brought by it, too. We’re here at Gaomei Wetlands for some sunset viewing, and it didn’t disappoint.
If you’re lucky, the 800-meter boardwalk will be spacious enough for a good photo op with the dawn and the windmills in the background. However, that rarely is the case here. It is, though, a good place for some downtime where you can pick a spot to sit, walk on the sand, or just admire the beauty of the wind turbines against the orange purple sky.
From the boardwalk, it is easy to spot tiny crabs lurking in the muddy sands. There are also different kinds of birds to watch here. To maximize the fun, I recommend wearing casual wear that will allow you to easily wade to the shorelines.
My mom and I did enjoy our quiet afternoon stroll despite keeping our shoes on and staying on the boardwalk. Oh, and by the way? Admission is free here.
