The famous ruins are the remains of a Franciscan church, Cagsawa Church, built way back in the 16th-century Franciscan church. It was first established in the town of Cagsawa in 1587 but was subjected to fire in 1636. It was restored in 1724 by Fr. Francisco Blanco but was damaged again on February 1, 1814, due to the eruption of the Mayon Volcano.
