June 23, 2018 – The clouds above me were grey and heavy, thickening in every second that ticked. Is it a good time to go on a staycation?, I thought to myself while the bus approached Chateau Royale Hotel Resort and Spa in Nasugbu, Batangas. The beautiful hotel and resort is only one bus away from Tagaytay and is unquestionably a great destination for those seeking an immediate break. It is a resort ideal for families and huge groups, established in a provincial area where the fresh breeze is just an inhale away.
For families planning to go around the vicinity, the resort is about 4 kilometers away from Caleruega Church, approximately 10 kilometers from Mt. Batualo, and around 15 kilometers from Sky Ranch and Summit Ridge Promenade. On a weekend, the area usually attracts high traffic due to the several tourist sites nearby.
The hesitations that irked my enthusiasm faded away as soon as I got off the bus, expecting that the weekend would be extraordinary, contrary to what I’ve imagined. I was warmly welcomed by the chic furniture in rich orchid color which makes up the impressive lobby of the hotel. Fancy choice of statuettes and elaborate furnishings show the influence of Indian inspiration in its style and design. That afternoon, I ran swiftly towards the floating restaurant to meet my friends. There was a shuttle service that I could’ve utilized but a few meters walk was something I’d rather do.
It was a great kickstart for an awesome weekend.
At the heart of the sprawling 100-hectare resort is the floating restaurant where sumptuous Filipino food is available. The several cottages that stand in the idle water present a venue for a fishing experience, an activity that young families would enjoy.
Currently, the establishment has a vast room for improvement before it reaches its full potential. Paying a considerable effort to maintain the cleanliness of the water and the condition of the cabins would restore the life of the restaurant. Perhaps in the very near future, I would see this place wearing a fresh paint and well-preserved facade.
On another note, the Filipino food was prepared thoughtfully. The chicken and pork viands have thick gravy sauce that enhances the savory meaty taste while the plate of sauteed vegetables, also known as chop suey, was light in the stomach. It was the right balance to the heaviness of the meat. Lastly, the creamy leche flan was sugared just right, smooth and sweet for dessert!
The facade of the hotel, at first glance, reminded me of a college building in my university back in Cavite. Although from the outside it looked more of an office building rather than a leisure hotel, the interior of the structure brings you back to relaxation thanks to the warm lighting that adds drama to the scene. We stayed in room 314, a Skylight premier room that features a spacious living area, cable television, coffee/tea making facilities, mini fridge, complimentary bottled water, hot-and-cold shower, bath towel, shampoo, and soap. The room is fully air-conditioned and has two single beds plus an IDD Telephone. Unfortunately, the building, whether examined from afar or up close, shows signs of its worn-out condition. This is something that the management can work on 🙂
On the other hand, Chateau Royale offers a rustic accommodation for those who’d prefer a feel of the countryside. The Cabins give the guests a comfortable stay, where a spacious living area, cable television, coffee/tea making facilities, mini fridge, complimentary bottled water, hot-and-cold shower, bath towel, shampoo, and soap await. The room is also fully air-conditioned and has one queen-sized bed.
I guess for someone who wants to taste the life in the province, it’s a great choice for a retreat. The log cabins feature light-colored wood design elements that enhance the rural mood of the interior of the structures.
The resort houses a huge aviary nearby the wave pool area and team building facility. One may find a very talkative caged parrot, a lone ostrich, horned deer, and various species of birds. I may have some reservations in promoting the aviary because the animals seem deserted somehow but my only hope is that the management spends time and attention to take care of the animals.
By far, the peacocks stole my heart with their colorful feathers and shining eyes. I did enjoy my experience at the aviary because of these beautiful beings. My tip when going to the aviary, watch out for falling birdpoops! I was victimized myself, but it wasn’t that bad.
Chateau Royale is known as the biggest hotel resort in Batangas, and it’s no surprise that it operates numerous facilities such as the wave pool and the clubhouse pool. Famous for the exciting wave pool, there are inflatables that one can rent for maximum enjoyment. The waves go on a roll at 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm. This feature is ideal for barkadas who likes thrill.
Meanwhile, for guests who would like to relax, the outdoor pool beside the Forest Bar is available. Although it’s relatively smaller than the wave pool, it encourages a quieter ambiance. The clubhouse pool sits beside the quaint European-themed cafe, Tazza de Cafe.
More than the outdoor pools, the resort also has its own greenhouse (which I hope could be given proper attention), event pavilion which can accommodate up to a thousand guests, and team building facility for companies and schools, and structure for rock climbing. Again, there is nothing else I would ask from the hotel management but to enforce greater effort in keeping everything in its maintained condition.
Spa and Indoor Pool
I couldn’t believe my eyes upon noticing the bright blue waters that gleamed in the darkness within the spa area. Aside from the two outdoor pools, namely wave pool and the clubhouse pool, the resort also takes pride in its indoor pool, which from atop looks like the number 18 in shape.
With Janine Daquio, the person behind the blog Lady Lagalag, as my ever-reliable buddy on this trip, I was able to capture the grandeur of the facility in photographs. The high ceiling, minimal lighting, and soothing zen music inspire guests to empty their minds and put their bodies at ease.
In a serene and intimate atmosphere, I could say that this was the highlight of my stay. The slightest movement echoes throughout the room, it was how quiet and calm the place was. Maybe with an e-book or a movie in hand, time would go unnoticed. Indeed, Chateau Royale is after their visitors’ leisure and relaxation.
Chateau Royale Hotel Resort and Spa has a great potential, yes. But until an effort is exerted to go the extra mile in developing this vast property, the unmet potential will become nothing but a dream. I recommend this place if you’re checking in the cabins and going for the spa.
