October 13, 2017 – After a hot bath at Maquinit Hotsprings, it was time to eat dinner at no other than The View Deck Grillhouse. Sophia Garden Resort‘s Executive Chef Francis Christian “Janjie” Ocoma brought us to the newly opened al fresco dining restaurant that he also manages. It’s a place (which can fit 70 people) where guests can chill out, drink and socialize, eat full meals and just enjoy the great view of the Coron Island.
Although when we got there, it was raining so bad and the breeze was not helping our still drenching bodies to feel better, but the ambiance of the venue provided the warmth for us. Given the experience and expertise of Chef Janjie, I was confident that whatever The View Deck Grillhouse serves us will only exceed my expectations. They gave us a set menu composed of two kinds of creamy pastry-covered soups, baked shepherd’s pie, chicken enchilada, classic buffalo wing for appetizers, country-style chicken and grilled platter for the main course, and two slices of cakes for dessert.
And true enough, the meals were excellently prepared. One by one, the dishes were served on our tables and we sure were ready to devour them all! I started off my night with the Cream of Mushroom Cheese Soup. It was presented in a pastry-covered bowl and once I broke the crust, the creamy soup came into view and the aroma stirred up my appetite. It was a great remedy to this cold evening weather.
I discovered a new love, Baked Shepherd’s Pie that is. It was my first time to taste such dish and I can’t stop myself from eating it! I think I was responsible for clearing the two bowls on the table, knowing that I am fond of anything potatoes. It was that yummy!
The classic Buffalo Wings and the Country Style Fried Chicken were both awesome to my palette! Spicy wings with a pesto cream sauce matched the tangy flavor while the country-style fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Great combo for a warrior’s feast!
If it’s a sin to fall in love with food, then I’m guilty as charged. I’m having an affair with this Chicken Enchilada! It’s close to the rich taste of lasagna but instead of the pasta, it’s a combination of chicken slices and a creamy tomato sauce all rolled up in a savory tortilla wrap.
Lastly, the feast was completed when the Grilled Platter was served. There were two kinds of grilled platter that were served to us that night. The other is a grilled pork and prawns coated with a thick barbecue sauce. The other platter consists of chicken inasal and grilled tuna. Yum yum!
To cap everything off, we indulged to the soft and rich slice of cheesecake! And the tiramisu was also heavenly!
When in Coron, don’t miss this foodie adventure at The View Deck Grillhouse! Thanks to Chef Janjie for the kindness and Sophia’s Garden Resort for prepping everything for this media tour 🙂
