Waterfalls in Biliran: Tinago Falls in Caibiran

Last year, my friends and I booked a flight to Tacloban in Leyte with one objective in mind – Kalanggaman Island. Upon arriving at the airport, one year after that ticket purchase, we still had Kalanggaman Island as our main destination. However, it was hard to resist the beauty of Sambawan Island and the others attractions in Biliran. With a spontaneous change in plans, what was supposed to be a relaxing day on the sandbar in Palompon became an adrenaline-filled adventure in Biliran.

June 20, 2017 — We didn’t stay too long in Recoletos Falls because we still had to go to Tinago Falls, our third waterfall in Biliran. It was raining quite hard as we descend back to the trailhead. Kuya Roldan’s slippers got broken so all this time, the soles of his feet were kissing, even embracing, the dirt and mud.  The murky path slowed us down so I took off my slippery sandals and walked barefoot as well. Even though we were slower in pace, the trek seemed shorter this time because of Kuya Roldan’s funny remarks and jokes. It was already 1:30 in the afternoon when we departed from Almeria. The rain was still pouring hard that we had to make a stop at  Kuya Roldan’s humble abode to wait until the weather clears out again. We were so blessed to have Kuya Roldan as our guide. We were so blessed to have Kuya Roldan as our guide. When we were inside his house, we discovered that he also owns a sari-sari store. We still didn’t have lunch, so it was a chance for us to fill our stomachs with something. We bought bread and requested for a cup of hot chocolate and a cup of instant coffee for each of my friends. This side trip was as remarkable as the other destinations we went to.It was approximately after 30 minutes when the rain weakened. Now that we were recharged, we had ample energy for Tinago Falls. We passed by the town center of Naval once again, now off to the other side of Biliran, the town Caibiran. After 40 minutes of changing landscapes, we reached the gates of Tinago Falls site.

We passed by the town center of Naval once again, now off to the other side of Biliran, the town Caibiran. After 40 minutes of changing landscapes, we reached the gates of Tinago Falls Eco-Tourism Park. There was an entrance fee of ₱20 for tourists who wish to go to Tinago Falls. Upon entering, I was surprised that the waterfalls was fully developed. The path going to the waterfalls was leveled and cemented already. There were even covered concrete bleachers for those who would like to have a picnic. Finally, we reached the falls after 3 minutes of walking from the registration office. The falls

Finally, we reached the falls after 3 minutes of walking from the registration office. The falls wasn’t too high. It’s about 10 feet in height, but indeed the force of the water was strong. The water is cold but bearable.

The area was surrounded by vines and trees. The catch basin is encircled by huge rocks. In its center lies deep water. I heard people here can cliff jump and dive. Just be careful not to fall down the stone-y part.
