Last year, my friends and I booked a flight to Tacloban in Leyte with one objective in mind – Kalanggaman Island. Upon arriving at the airport, one year after that ticket purchase, we still had Kalanggaman Island as our main destination. However, it was hard to resist the beauty of Sambawan Island and the natural wonders of Biliran. With a spontaneous change in plans, what was supposed to be a relaxing day on the sandbar in Palompon became an adrenaline-filled adventure in Biliran.
June 19, 2017 — Dalutan Island was first on our island hopping tour. From Naval, it took us 40-minutes of changing landscape before we arrived at Kawayan Port. Kuya Roldan assisted us in booking the island hopping tour with the accredited boatmen of Kawayan Motorboat Services Association (KAMASA). It was Ate Malou whom we talked with regarding the setup. Since we were only a group of four, they allowed us to haggle the price from ₱5,000 down to ₱4,000.

At almost 9 in the morning, we have arrived in Dalutan Island. The Dalutan Island is a privately owned beach which lies 8-kilometers away from Higatangan Island. The waters on this part of the island boast clear turquoise hues while the sound marine life invites the tourists for a day of snorkeling and diving. The entrance fee to the island is ₱20 per head.
The beach is blessed with towering coconut trees, nipa palms, and ipil-ipil trees in almost every corner. Thus, with a good coverage from the tree shades, the island goers are protected from the blazing heat of the sun.
The management is still constructing a huge part of the island, but as of today, it already has numerous nipa cottages, basic bathing area, and a very well-maintained beach. A few minutes away from the Dalutan Island is another beach that takes pride in its crystal clear waters – the Capiñahan Island.
